Describe your work responsibilities and the importance of your role.

As Commercial Manager, I am responsible for our oil seed and grain trade in Germany. I lead a team of 15 people at two sites. We supply three oil mills in Germany with about 1.5 million metric tons of rapeseed a year and sell the products to the food, animal feed and biofuel industries. We also supply our starch factories in Germany with about 500,000mt of wheat a year and are involved in exporting wheat to other countries.

Describe your day-to-day activities and the skills needed to perform well.

My day-to-day work varies. Most importantly, I have to guarantee that our oil mills are fully utilized at all times in order to serve our customers, to constantly improve customer relations, to be the partner of choice, to train and develop our young talent and much more. In my role, it is particularly important to collaborate closely with other departments and business units and to lead diverse teams. You need excellent analytical skills, a passion for allowing our business to keep growing and also a sound entrepreneurial sense.

Describe your career path. Where did you start and how did you get to where you are today?

I started as a trainee in the commercial area nine years ago, trading in animal feed, rapeseed and plant oils. During my trainee programme, I spent some time at our Amsterdam office. A few years later I took over management of our oil mill business. After a year on maternity leave, I am now in charge of our overall trade activities in oil seed and cereals in Germany.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

What I find most rewarding about my work is that I can contribute and implement my own ideas and I can contribute to the overall success of the company. It is great when you achieve or even surpass targets, such as trading results, processing volumes and customer satisfaction
