“What I appreciate at Cargill is that potential is valued above anything else. Whether you’re a man or a woman, the opportunities to progress are there. It’s simply a question of seizing them!”
As operations manager, I am responsible for the smooth running of all the transport operations to our customers. With 21 drivers on the road, I don’t always have a good night’s sleep... but after 22 years in the transport department, I still get much pleasure from my job! You don’t become involved in the usual power struggles with a team of men. I can speak to them knowing that I have their utmost respect. Furthermore, the sector is attracting more and more woman drivers.
I began working for Cargill as an operator and I organised the drivers’ routes. I was promoted without expecting to be and was somewhat overwhelmed. I doubted my ability to manage larger teams and I wanted to continue working part-time. The company supported me. My working conditions remained the same and, with training and supervision, I was able to benefit from this promotion and add new strings to my bow.
I believe that, as a result of the level of trust placed in us, we all have the tools to succeed if we wish to do so. Cargill is a dynamic company, there is no sense of routine. There are numerous opportunities to progress. You just have to know how to seize them. For example, there are colleagues of mine who want to go and work in the United States to enjoy new experiences. I really hope they can achieve their dream!
