Cargill's starches & sweeteners business is the production entity for Cargill’s European businesses based on wheat & corn wet milling – and is the largest such entity in the European market. It is headquartered in Mechelen.
We operate various facilities throughout Europe including plants with associated sales offices in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland and have additional sales offices in Scandinavia, Hungary and United Arab Emirates in order to serve those particular regions.
All products are supported by the Technology Centres of Excellence in Vilvoorde, Belgium and Krefeld, Germany. Local specialists in each geography provide local services to customers based on an extensive knowledge network based around the Technology Centres. Specific Application Centres and specialists develop new products and formulations that support development and maintenance activities for customers.
Cargill's starches & sweeteners business produces an extensive range of starch-derived products from the more traditional glucose and fructose-based liquid and dry sweeteners, through native starches to the more specialised, value-added polyol-based sweeteners, additional speciality sweeteners and modified starches. Wheat proteins which are produced from the non-starch part of these grains (mainly in the form of vital wheat gluten) are offered to food customers and a full range of wheat and corn-derived proteins, fibers and lipids (PFL’s) are sold to the feed industry including petfood.
The full range of sweeteners (as listed above) are sold to food customers in the confectionery, brewing, non-alcoholic beverage, dairy and ice cream, preserves and bakery market sectors. Non food applications of the starches and sweeteners are sold to the pharma and personal care sectors, as well as to the paper, corrugating and chemicals sectors.
Native and specialty starches are marketed and sold through our texturising solutions business to a range of markets in food broadly similar to the sweeteners business - with the notable addition of convenience foods.
Finally, activities have lately included production of starch-derived ethanols, which have been largely used for food and technical purposes.
The business provides a comprehensive range of supply chain services, including identity-preserved raw material sourcing, full quality and microbiological testing and other operational services, and expanded services to bulk customers and risk management services in collaboration with other businesses.
