Mechelen

In 2002, Cargill acquired Cerestar, a European-based starch producer. This acquisition which involved 3,400 employees, is still Cargill’s largest acquisition. When Cargill wanted to unite its European food businesses and started looking for a location - which had to be easily accessible by car, close to public transportation and the airport and located somewhere in the middle of our other North-European plants – the former Cerestar Mechelen offices were selected to become Cargill’s Food Ingredients and Systems Europe, Middle East & Africa headquarters.

Since then the offices, now called Cargill Europe, have expanded and welcomed colleagues from subsequent significant acquisitions such as Duckworth Flavours, Citrico and Degussa Food Ingredients.

Today, around 300 employees from various businesses such as Cargill Starches & Sweeteners, Cargill Texturising Solutions, Cargill Flavor Systems and Cargill Malt in addition to a large group of employees working in pan-European and Belgian shared functions, such as IT, Finance, Law, Plant Operations & Engineering, Corporate Affairs and Human Resources, are based in Mechelen.
